Making Baby Food

Because I work full time and I never know what kind of weekend I'm going to have. I have to make a lot of food at one time, so i have plenty of advance notice to make more if needed.   I did not take many pictures because it was a little Chaotic (yes this is normal in my house).

Sweet Potatoes on left
1.
Wash and poke holes in sweet potato with fork. Run under water again then wrap sweet potatoes in tin foil.
2. Place in a 410 degree oven and bake for 50 minutes or until soft

3. Remove skins by slitting the sweet potato lengthwise then scoop out the "meat" into the blender.
4. I don’t add very much water at this point. I leave it condensed.  Puree for about 5 mins, I do stop and stir the sweet potatoes off the sides a couple times. I aim for a little runnier then mash potatoes.

Butternut Squash on right
1. Cut butternut squash in half, scoop out seeds
2. Place halves face down in a pan and cover with an inch of water
3. Bake in a 410 degree oven for 50 minutes
4. I scooped the squash “meat” out of the shell while it was still hot, but you may want to wait till it cools.
5. Again, I puree for about 5 minutes, stopping a couple times to stir in the sides. I did not need to add any water to this one.

To freeze it I poured each into my cupcake pan. Put it in the freezer for about an hour. I had to run a little hot water on the back to get the block of frozen puree to pop out. I labeled Ziploc bags with the veggie and the date I made them. When I'm ready to feed the baby, I put a block in a cup with a little water (if your BFing you can use Breastmilk) and steam it in my bottle warmer. It’s ready in minutes and JC healthy organic baby food for pennies a meal.
